SALZBURG: THE CITY OF MOZART

At a strategic crossroad, Salzburg lies 150 km west of Munich and 300 km east of Vienna. It is also the gateway from Austria to Tyrol and the Alps. Surrounded by the lake district — each more beautiful than the next — the city is not only worth visiting in its own right but also serves as the perfect starting point for exploring the entire region.

Known as the city of music, Salzburg resonates with classical melodies at every turn: in its churches, drifting from the windows of its baroque houses, or played by its many street musicians. At its cultural heart stands the imposing Festival Hall, home to the world-renowned Salzburg Summer Festival.

Strolling through the Old Town is like stepping into Mozart’s world: at every corner, it feels as if he were greeting you. From the hilltop fortress — reached on foot or by funicular — you’ll enjoy sweeping views over the city. The Cathedral and its many churches are must-sees, and with a bit of luck, you may even catch a concert inside one of them.

HOTELS

Salzburg offers historic and charming places to stay:

  • Hotel Sacher – Famous for its legendary chocolate cake, located across the river.
  • Goldener Hirsch – In the heart of the Old Town, intimate and classic.
  • Schloss Mönchstein – Perched on a hill with spectacular views of the city.
  • Schloss Fuschl – Just outside Salzburg, worth visiting to dine, stay, or simply enjoy its majestic surroundings.

RESTAURANTS & CAFÉS

The restaurants at the Sacher and Goldener Hirsch hotels are excellent — refined and blissfully free of tourist crowds. The historic Café Tomaselli is an institution; securing a table there feels like stepping back into the days of Mozart and Salieri.

Also charming is Resch & Lieblinch, a small, simple restaurant full of character, tucked beside a lovely equestrian shop at the foot of the mountain in the Old Town.

SHOPPING

  • Jagd-Schulnigg – Salzburg’s legendary hunting and clothing store, with more than a century of history. Its clientele has included royalty, European high society, and Hollywood stars of the 1950s and 60s.
  • Trachten Stassny – A wonderful boutique showcasing Austria’s most iconic and luxurious fashion label Habsburg.
  • Dantendorfer – Located on the famous Getreidegasse, Dantendorfer is one of Salzburg’s most elegant and beautifully curated boutiques. Renowned for its refined selection of luxury fashion and impeccable taste, it is a true destination for style lovers. We are extremely proud that our TISSA FONTANEDA handbags are represented in such a sophisticated and iconic store.

No visit to Salzburg is complete without tasting the delicious Mozartkugeln, the city’s signature chocolate truffles. You can find them everywhere.

NOTE: Please note that this is not a conventional travel guide but a collection of suggestions that reflect the lifestyle that Tissa Fontaneda wishes to share through her handbags and accessories.
