KITZBÜHEL
Kitzbühel is a beautiful medieval village in the heart of the Austrian Tyrol, founded in 1271 and nestled between the spectacular Wilder Kaiser mountains and the valley that leads to the Pass Thurn.
It gained international fame with the rise of skiing as a leisure activity, but it’s important to note that life in Kitzbühel doesn’t revolve solely around skiing — there are countless other ways to enjoy this place. Beyond its picturesque slopes, the stunning scenery, charming Tyrolean farms and houses, and the nearby lake make Kitzbühel a dream destination, both in winter and in summer.
Its historic centre is like a fairy tale, with medieval churches and colourful old buildings. But beauty isn’t limited to the old town — the surrounding villages like Aurach, Jochberg, and Kirchberg are also enchanting, and home to the four main access points to the famous ski area.
As is typical in Austria, the locals are extremely polite and welcoming, and will do everything they can to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

THE SKI AREA
The ski resort, called Hahnenkammbahn, offers around 170 km of slopes. It spans several connected mountains, with chairlifts, pistes for all levels, and off-piste areas. It’s not known for very high peaks, but the landscape is truly breathtaking.
Each January, it hosts the world’s most famous downhill race: the Hahnenkammrennen, featuring the legendary and notoriously dangerous Streif descent.
KITZBÜHEL IN SUMMER
Without the snow, the landscape may seem less appealing to some tourists — and that’s exactly what makes Kitzbühel such a peaceful and special summer destination.
Just outside the village lies a beautiful lake for swimming (and ice skating in winter), and there are countless walking trails through the mountains that lead to traditional farms, where the farmer might offer you cheese and milk made from his own cows.
You can also simply enjoy the village’s sunny terraces, its restaurants, and its endless shops — there are plenty to explore! You’ll find our bags at the lovely Kastenhuber boutique.
From Kitzbühel, it’s easy to take day trips to Salzburg, Innsbruck, or Munich, visit the stunning lakes of the region (like the Königssee), or explore the magical Eisriesenwelt ice caves.
Locals call it “Kitz” — and today, it’s a refined and luxurious village with exceptional hotels and wonderful restaurants, many of them perched on mountain slopes or nestled among the pistes.
